Description
Any acoustic guitar can be used to play this song. As for the electric, I’m using a Telecaster style guitar for this song, but any electric guitar is suitable. I’ve selected the bridge pickup for a bright, clear tone.
On the electric guitar, tune up your B string one step and a half to D. This allows us to have an open D note ringing out with the octave parts to make the parts sound more like the dulcimer on the recording.
A Fender tube amp is the best choice to replicate the clean dulcimer tones heard in this tune. Dial in a clean - right on the edge of breakup sound - for example, set the Preamp Gain to 35%, Bass to 45%, Mids to 55%, Treble to 60%, and Presence to 60%.
Add some reverb to both guitars for depth.
I’m using regular light gauge strings that are 10-46 along with a heavy pick to dig right in. As for the acoustic, I’m using a medium pick along with 11-52 string gauge.
