Description

In this chapter we've explored some of the most common open tunings. I was tempted to call them standard open tunings, but that would just be confusing. This list is open ended. There are as many different tunings as you can imagine, because that's all it takes, having the courage to alter just one or more of your open strings and explore what doors and sounds that opens up.

Sometimes the change comes first. You alter your tuning and see what it has to offer. And then other times the need comes first. Some awkward chord voicing or move is causing you a lot of trouble so you fix it by changing the tuning. So in this tutorial we'll explore a handful of wild card tunings which will hopefully show you that the only things limiting the potential use of open tunings is your own courage and imagination. Keep in mind that this will be a lot of tuning up and down and it can be a little hard on the strings, especially if they're old, so you may wanna keep a backup set of strings handy.
