Description
In this lesson we'll explore how to combine our 3/4 fingerpicking pattern with some basic finger strumming. This is when it starts to sound like you really know what you're doing. Let's start again with our C chord and apply the basic pattern. There are endless ways of doing this, so I'll show you one of the simplest and most useful ones.
We'll start the same, but instead of the careful picking of the inside strings, we'll do more of a strum with our thumb from the D string and up. All that's left to do now is to add the upstrokes in between with your 1st or 2nd finger on the way up.
I'm hitting mostly the high E string, but also getting some of the B and G string in there as well. It's really the same thing as before, but loosened up so you get a more free strummy sound rather than the precise finger picking. Take it nice and slow, because the whole goal with this pattern is to make it sound really relaxed.
Once you're ready we can apply this pattern to our first example going 4 bars of C to 4 bars of A minor. Repeat that and end on a C major chord.
Now let's try this extra slowly with the metronome. Remember that you can always do this exercise on your own with the metronome at any tempo that suits you!
