If you are up for a challenge, here are a few strumming and picking approaches that get closer to the vibe on the original recording. First off, you could strum all of the 8th notes, not just every three, but making sure that the first strum of three is higher in dynamic to give a nice feel. You could also simply arpeggiate the chords to give more of the sound from the recording.
