In this tutorial we are going to learn how to play "Georgia on My Mind" as performed by Willie Nelson. This classic track is a jazz standard from the Great American Songbook, and has been recorded many times by a variety of different artists in different styles. Willie Nelson's version has stood the test of time as one of the finest, being played in a slow 12/8 swing feel with his signature guitar playing and voice.

It's important to note a few things about this version of the song, and how we are going to approach it here on Guitar Tricks. The original version is in D-flat major, and is played on a nylon string guitar. It also features a harmonica solo and lots of cool licks at the end of the song. For this tutorial, I am going to teach the song in C major on an acoustic guitar, and will be playing the harmonica solo on an electric guitar. You can use a nylon string if you want, your acoustic, or a clean tone electric the whole time. All will sound great, and the most important thing is to serve the song and support the vocals singing that classic melody.

We will be learning "Georgina on My Mind" is in the Key of C major. In 4/4 time the song is 65 BPM, but the song is felt in 12/8.
