Description
Using octaves can put a great tonal variation on the Phrygian mode. Whether you play the octave notes together or seperately, using octaves makes the notes pack a real punch.
In this example, you'll notice that I do not use a specific rhythmic pattern with the octaves. I simply slide the shapes up and down the neck using my effects (including the wah) to get a powerful Metal feel. It sounds great and it will help you to learn the Phrygian mode up and down the neck rather in just one position.
