Scale And Chord Relationships: Lesson 4

In this lesson we are going to use notes from the C major scale to get back and forth between two chords: C major chord and A minor chord.

This is a technique that is used very frequently in all styles of music. We are focusing on two separate but related things with this lesson.

1. Acquiring the physical skill necessary to switch back and forth between playing multiple notes (holding and strumming a chord) and single notes (holding and picking the scale notes).

2. Understanding that we are combining chords and scales together in the same exercise and musical example for the first time.

Hi there I feel a but thick...I don't understand what the numbers are or what the yellow and white colouring represents in the notation. Please could you explain? Many thanks Gary

Hello Gary - thanks so much for your question! The numbers are Tabulature - it's an easier form of notation for guitarists. You can learn all about it here: https://www.guitartricks.com/how-to-read-guitar-tabs As for the diagram - the white and yellow dots represent the notes from the C major scale, while the yellow dots are telling you the notes that are in a C major chord. Hope this helps!
