I find I do not have the stretch / range for certain left hand exercises. Should i practice getting the range or can I substitute fingers that are more comfortable and/or reach better. Will that mess me up in the future?

Hey khoward103,
It depends on the exercise. One thing that can help is to start higher on the neck. If you're trying to do exercises at the 1st fret, trying moving it up to the 5th fret of 7th fret. Then, over time, practice moving it back down slowly. That way, you can at least do the exercises and improve your stretch / range over time.
