I've owned and goofed around on guitars for over 25 years. 41 now and decided it's time to actually learn how to play. I don't know how I've functioned in bands before but I'm tired of being embarrassed and I want to understand the instrument and music I love so much. I'm here to hopefully figure out how to memorize the fretboard, train my ear, learn sufficient scales and chords to actually be able to jam in a band or with friends. I can sight read a TAB like most people read books, but I haven't a clue what I'm doing and I usually retain zero. I know I can be good, just need a lot of guidance and to unlearn bad habits.

Feeling hopeful that this is the answer to finally becoming the player I've always dreamed of being.

Hi Chris

I think you've come to the right place. There is everything you need here to take you where you want to go. Excellent tuition, excellent instructors and advice when you need it from people who know what they are talking about.

I would suggest you go back to basics and start afresh, - just a suggestion. You can skip over stuff you already know but you can often find out things why you didn't achieve your desired goals in the past.

Anyway, I wish you lots of success in your venture and hope you can achieve what you want.

Joe.

Same boat too Chris (and Mike).

I got guitar lessons as a teenager and was in a few bands in my late teens / early 20s. I never stopped playing the guitar entirely but played it rarely once kids came along (and I never learned anything new). Decided to learn properly in October last year and have really enjoyed it. I did what Joe suggests - I went back to basics and did Guitar Fundamentals 1 and 2. Then I moved on to Blues Style 1 and I'm now working through Blues Style 2. I'd recommend this. I learned new things and remembered things I'd long forgotten.

Hope you become the player you want to be!

Istvan

Rock on.
