Actually, if your music theory is upto scratch and you don't see anything intimidating with a chord like Gm 13+7sharp 7 +5(you've seen chords with names like that),then this tetra methane stuff is just like that.
It's just a definition of how atoms and molecules are joined,which one to where, the orientations,blah blah blah. Much like a jigsaw puzzle.
The reason Doc says they just call it stuff is just that; there is nothing much to it. If he wants to get into it,he knows how to get into it,so why bother learning the name of a compound that takes three minutes to pronounce.
