Can tube compression get a guitar to burp like a saxophone?

I have this overdriven electric guitar sound in my head and I can't figure out how to create it. I want to compress, overdrive, compress, and overdrive some more, until i get this really gritty, tight, groaning sound that burps and snorts when you move yer fingers on the strings - kinda like the chirps and burps that a sax makes when you play it all wrong. I feel like this could be done, maybe by starting with that velvety violin quality (that everyone is after) and crushing it until it lets out the occasional uncontrolable noise.

The only guitars that I've heard with similar sounds are Smashing Pumkins (sometimes) and Dean Wareham (from Galaxie 500 and Luna).

Will this work?... humbucker -> compressor (using a very strong ratio) -> a tube-type OD pedal (saturated with tube compression) -> another OD/booster (like a Fulltone Fulldrive) -> Wah pedal (pushed down to squash out some of the high frequencies) -> a tube amp (with the preamp tubes pushed way-too-hard)

Please - send me any suggestions you may have, as I am an acoustic guitarist by nature and this electric stuff is uncharted territory for me.
Thanks
