how do I read chord songs

ok i dont know if this has been posted ornot yet but i wanted to know if someone could explain how to read chord songs like for example:
blahh blahh blahh
G Am C

i know the chords but i dont understand how many times to strum them could someone help???? thx

You have to listen to the song to figure it out, or just make up your own strumming pattern. This style of notation doesn't show rhythm.

There are many ways to approach it, you can strum the same rhythm of the melody (always effective), or make up your own, etc...

Some nice ways to play it are:

Playing in tight blocks, often used in jazz formats

Playing the chords in singles notes (arpeggios) in eighth notes... etc...

Playing quick 16th strums that ring out to bigger chords, used by Pete Townshend, and his almighty windmill.

You have to know what's approipriate for the song.
