I've been teaching myself to play the electric guitar for 1 month now and i wanted to know what you think of my progress.. but i must admit, i havn't learnt much because i've been messing around too much. :D Anyway...

I started with playing smoke under the bridge, it's so easy (Guns n roses) and trying to do the begining of master of puppets but i think it'll be awhile until i can do it at the correct speed.
14 open chords

names of the notes (5th 6th string)

Barre chords (allthough i am having trouble with the barring part)

some powerchord shapes

am i doing ok? Ii've been busy lately so i'll have more time to focus on guitar. Now i'm moving onto scales but i'm a little confused by them.. could someone show me a good site that shows you how you should play them?

Thanks alot!

Any one who is trying to tell you that they can teach you "simple tricks to make you sound like a pro in one hour" is full of ****.

Learning the guitar is a bitch, it is not imposable but don't expect to be playing "Eruption" after an hour of tuition. I have been playing more than 20 years and if there were any miracle tricks, I grantee you I'd have found them by now. What I do know about are pentatonic boxes, keys and chord progressions all of which can be found on this site.

Do expect: very sore figures, months of frustration, head scratching, muscle pain, followed by your head exploding (especially on Tuesdays).

Now seriously, it takes time and there are no miracle lessons / cures /fixes etc. I'd advise finding a real teacher for half an hour a week that can sit down you you and criticize your posture etc, at least for the first couple of months. Make sure the teacher can teach you what you want to know, that will help.

It is no good wanting to play metal and getting a flamingo teacher, it will only frustrate you.

Also, it can be done as long as you dont give up, so keep at it and you will get there!

g'luck !
My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.

I know all about those sites, but those sites just say it'll help you learn quicker than trying to figure everything out on your own. :) They you samples of what it's like on those sites and i like the look of them. Oh, and i already have had head scratching and sore fingers. :D I found http://www.guitartips.com.au/ on the guitartricks friends section. Spent about 5 months researching on what guitar& to buy and making sure i knew what sort of stuff i would have to learn (music theory) I love guitar and even have future plans to buy a bass guitar and start recording my own music (maybe in 20 odd years) :D

I think variations are good. No offence to anyone, but I really think this forum moore and moore looks like a little family, with few new influences, since it seems to me that only arond 20 members are really active on the forum. So, if you ask me, check out other forums and sites and take your knowledge with you and share it with the rest of the girls and guys here.

I share dr. Simons thoughts about miracle-cures aswell, all good guitarplayers have been doing the same process: hour aftar hour, day after day, month after month practicing, improvising, playing and reading theory. Musicians are a bounch of dedicated and hard working people and I really think they deserve more respect from the society.

Anyway, keep playing and if you ever think anything like this: "I will never be a good guitarist!" just write your thoughts on the forum and all the great people here will help you finding the motivation again!

Take care dude!
