yeah, for tapping (especially two handed) it is very important to have good technique, the slightest bugger ups will cause it to sound muddy.
Dude I think that a slight chorus, with lotsa distortion and maybe a compressor makes for awesome tapping. Turn your treble up a bit, so that it is sparkling, not twangy and let rip.
