You don't need to do that. Hell, my finger's are as short as my little sister's (who's only 13), but I can put my thumb to index 180 degrees, which gives me a stretch comfortably of 5 -> 10, but I can hit the 11th if I really try to (not really useful though, because I can't go very fast from 5 -> 11. I don't have any trouble playing due to that, though. How often do you seriously need to stretch further. Just increase the flexibility of your fingers before considering cutting the webbing. I can hit an Fadd9 (1, 3, 5, 3, 2, 1) without trouble now, or an Am9 (x 0, 2, 4, 1, 3), or a C#11 (8, 10, 12, 11, 8, 8). It's just a matter of practice. Good luck.
