I'd say about 10% are right.
That is, about one per page.
I mean ****, some of those 'solo's, are nothing more than short fills.

Whats the big deal with the Stairway to Heaven solo though. I know that solo is awsome, but I have heard better.

I donĀ“t agree with these solos. I mean I like a majority of them, but for example: Although IĀ“m a big metallica fan itĀ“s just wrong that the one solo is the seventh best solo ever written. Such rankings are just based how famous a song is. Look at place 26. or something. Smells like teen spirit? People should stay realistic.

Well now that i look at it again, some of these solos don't earn a plce in their. Under A glass Moon's solo, is like 90 behind krk hametts, one, Kirk cant even dream of being the soloist Pertucci is.
and Kirk's solo's are higher than SRV. Hell No.

It's really a bad idea to start listing things like this
it's imposible to compare solo's like 'staiway to heaven' and 'eruption', those 2 peices of music just shouldn't be next to each other
they should have the hundred greatest blues solo's, the hundred greatest shred solo's, the hundred greatest rock solo's, hundred greatest jazz solo's etc. etc.

A while ago I say a smiliar thing which was "the 100 greatest guitar players".
1. It didn't mention any subject, like the 100 greatest jazz or rock, just the greatest.
2. Greatest guitar player generally refers to technique, else it would be the 100 greatest musicians.
Obviously clapton and hendrix were right next to the top, I've forgotten who was no 1, most likely clapton actually, which is bull****. (sorry to use foul language, couldn't think of a better word)
Satriani and Vai etc werent even on the list, neither was Yngwie, Petrucci, Eric Johnson or anyone like that. I think Kirk Hammet was about 5 places in front of Kurt Cobain..... These lists are always the kind of list someone with no knowledge of guitarists at all would write, like if you ask some pop fanatic who the best guitarist in the world is they're most likely to say clapton, or hendrix, or brian may. All great in their own respect, but I wouldn't say anywhere near the best.

i'm outraged, went through top 50 didn't see maggot brain by george clinton or anything by Angus Young OR TOMMY AND PHIL EMMANUEL for that matter (maybe that's just Aussie patriotism, though.) And surfing with the alien BEFORE satch boogie. COME OOOOOON.
And on a final note, the only thing worse than that list is the 100 worst guitar solos on pitchforkmedia.

DonĀ“t agree with this statement. To be a good player, in my opinion, you have to have a good technique and you also have to be a good musician.

Concerning Hendrix IĀ“m sure that he would earn a leading place in such a ranking(i mean hendrix has the greatest influence on other players and heĀ“s also the "inventor" of modern rock guitar), although, how already mentioned, these listings are kind of senseless.

All those 100 best whatever listings are complete crap...as someone said earlier in this forum, it is highly probable that the people who make them just want to make people mad.
For one the best solo would be by Morello, for another Petrucci, for another Dave Navarro(where the **** is he in this listings, I would ask for example). The facts is that if you ask 10 random people for their 100 greatest solos, you might end up with 1000 greatest solos

The world is loaded, it's lit to pop, nobody is gonna stop!

that list is compleatly biast, like other people said. Yea, they are definitly judging some solos on the popularity of the song. Jimmy Page is not the best guitarist (actually hes more of a theif considering that he stole Dazed and Confused and never gave credit). The breif guitar solo in What I Got by Sublime (who made said list) is one of the most recgonizible guitar solos ever. If you were to play that solo to anyone, they could most likely identify it. Also, look at Run Like an Antelope by Phish. Trey Anastasio is quite possibly the greatest guitarist around now. Run Like an Antelope is what I see to be one of Trey's many shining moments.
**** that list.
**** that list.

where may i ask is Greg Howe!?
He's Incredible!
Under A Glass Moon 98! that should be in the top 10 or 15! it's an excellent warm up aswell as soundin amazin!
Hammet shouldnt be in the top ten! not with One anyway, that is not his best! Paul gilbert didn't even appear! yngwie, vai an satriani should be higher aswell!
i disagree with most of that list! bad list! BAD BAD LIST!

I dont find anything wrong with the poll....i'd agree with stairway to heaven because the song has feeling which many songs dont have but kirk hammett i dont agree with because he likes to rip off riffs

Tisk tisk, haven't we seen this before? Come on, we all know the correct answer to this!
There is or will never be a "Correct" list. Everybody (not only guitar geeks like us) has a say in this and therefor will each provide different poll results! :)
By the way, no one can put anything Steve Vai's ever done next to what Kurt Cobain has done. Different era, different audience. Kurt has a simple catchy song structure (very well put together) where Steve Vai is a technical "all over the place" kind of guy. Cobain's musical structure was easy listening, Vais' by any means, is not. If Cobain were alive today he'd laugh. He never intended to be a guitar player hero.
To some people, Malmsteen is the enemy where as Randy Rhoads or Ritchie Blackmore are Gods! All three are neo-classical players, but a lot of people see Yngwie's playing as more "over the top" than Rhoads or Blackmore. That's because unlike Yngwie, they are more basically structured to play rock in a way thats easier to follow.
Hell, why do you think Kiss booted Vinnie Vincent for someone more like Ace Frehley? EXACTLY!
Just preference.

Just like the Top 100 Guitarist, it's bull**** with only the most popular guitarist on the list.
No Mikael Akerfeldt, Michael Romeo, Alexi Laiho, Chris and Michael Amott, Peter Wicher, Ola Frenning, Destructhor.
I wonder if they will include Mick Thompson and the other guy from Slipknot seeing that they are making horrible solos *shudder*
