you might want to be careful plugging a guitar into a mic socket as mic input (low Z) has a different impedance to guitar out put (hi Z). This means you are overloading your input and getting a clean sound will be difficult.
As for USB interfaces, I haven't tried the one Azrael mentioned however I have used a Line 6 Guitar port and that is good.
