That's what I think too, but some styles are prone to put image over technique when playing live. I had a guys album, which was pretty decent technically, and I went to see him play. He played with his guitar so low I thought it'd be impossible for him to do anything but he just played a watered down version of his tunes so he could jump around and whatnot and for the solos he put his foot up on a monitor and played with his guitar on his knee. I thought he was freaken stupid, but there's an example of how rediculous this whole strap issue can get.

Do these people who play with their guitars so low live, practice with them that low? Gotta suck.
