Right now i have a crate GX1200H, 120 watt, with a crate 4x12 straight cab. I completely hate the sound that it gives off. Not sure what kind of speakers the cab brings but im looking to go smaller with a combo perhaps. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions? Looking for a nice 2x12 with celestions vintage 30's? I play metal, like lead parts and need that nice but yet heavy sound.

take a look at the Peavey Triple XXX series. they can get viciously brutal, but also have a very good and warm clean channel. I have the head version and love it for pretty much all styles, but mostly for the heavier stuff.

You want HEAVY?

Scout out an early-to-mid-70's Ampeg VT-22. It's a 120 Watt 2x12" combo with a clean sound that kills! Add a distortion pedal, and the Voice of God becomes The Doombringer.

They crop up on eBay fairly often for about $400 US. Retube it with JJ KT88 power tubes and fresh preamp tubes (don't waste your money on that Garbage Tubes crap), and you have the best possible amp for way under a grand!

The V-4 (head version) or the V-4B (bass head without reverb) are even less expensive.

VOX use Celestions. The new AC30's are very pricey though.
