Other than that, is there anything else absolutely necessary to record on a home pc? Maybe a decent mixer when it comes time to record my bros drums, as well as a lot of additional mics but we'll worry about that when the time comes I guess.
Studio Equipment
So I'm going to pick up some Yamaha MSP5s and I've got a decent soundcard and a decent computer. What's a standard studio mic? I'll probably be using it for singing as well as to mic the amp (I've got a little behringer mic pre amp).

The 57 is often used for vocals, and the 58 is often used for instruments... if you want one mic that does a good job at both, either the 57 or 58 would be a good choice.
If you want to take it to another level, the AKG C414 is a very nice mic that works well on pretty much everything.
