What, in your opinion, is the best home recording software available today? Add-ons and other programs that you use too, like drum stuff and such. Only software though, if possible.

i´ve tested them all. Cubase (almost all versions), Protools, Cakewalk, Acid, Nuendo, Reason, Wavelab, Samplitude Studio, etc.

the best so far, with the most possibilities, the best workspace, the must Highend bulit in effects available today is DEFINITELY and without the slightest bit of a doubt: Emagic´s Logic Audio Platinum (latest version). the latest versoin is 6.3.1 (i guess) from version 6.0 onward it is a mac only proggy, since mac bought emagic and 90% percent of all logic users are mac users anyway. over here its pretty comon and widley used in studios since it is also WAY cheaper than protools.

emagic is constantly releasing new plugins for logic and each of those are just mind blowing and receive tremendous amounts of praise from the specialist pubications. AFAIK its not soo common in the US though.

but also the latest and last version for PC (5.5) is over the top and offers more than 99% of us musicians (no matter if pro or not) will ever need.

the only thing with logic is that its not too userfriendly in the beginning. but once you got an overview, you´ll definitely dig it.

I agree... I use Logic at college and I find it much better than Cubase. I use it on the mac, and it didn't take too long to get the hang of things. Only suggestion is don't try using it on the PC unless you have a fast system, especially if you intend on using loads of plugin's. Damn thing sucks up system resources pretty bad.

I have Cakewalk Sonar Producers pack, Wavelab, with the waves native gold plugins on a PC.

I haven't tried the MAC software however after shelling out 2k for the above it may be a while before I do !

i use logic 5.5 on a 1.33 GHZ thunderbird with 512 megs ram and it works absolutely flawless - even with 25 EXS24´s open and more.

sweet. i've got a lot of juice packed in this box so power shouldn't be a problem. i'll give logic 5.5 a go and rest assured if i get snagged i'll bug you guys about it. I want to put a tune on the radio. A local station. I've never been interested in this sort of thing before, only personal solo acheivments and such practicing. I'll have to do it up with the same kind of style and format as you hear on the radio, and the thought of adapting my playing or song writing habits to suit an audience is kind of appealing. This is my project from now on. I only hope the crappy equipment i've got will allow me to record with the quality needed.

behringer eurorack mix602a - some cheap mic preamp that i feed my guitar through (replaces my big but freakn horrible amp). so i feed my guitar through a cheap boss dirt pedal and then through the little amp and into an audigy platinum 1. that's all i've got. and a 11 year old mex. strat. good luck to me eh. oh and one cheap ass mic that is way bassy.

oh but the best headphones in the world, well maybe average as ffar as far as professional studio headphones go.
