Most of the time people are talking about kirk Hammett, whether how awesome or how bad and overrated he is. So I thought it would be time to talk about the guitar playing of this man, who actually made most of this killer riffs in Metallica´s songs, James Hetfield. I think he´s often underestimated and gets no dedication of his playing.

So to all of you, what´s your opinion??

He the singer? The lead guitarist has taken a bunch from Hendrix and I appreciate that. The singer knows how to play one thing and sometimes that's all you need.

I think he's one of the stiffest players I've ever heard, his rhythms are straight as a board. The king of the Anti-swing I always refer to him as.

There was a day when I enjoyed Metallica (Ride The Lightening, Master of Puppets, And Justice For All)....but as time wore on, I lost more and more respect for Metallica. Now they're just another shi**y boring band. Same goes for Hetfield.

I think he was a better musician when he was hitting the bottle. Now that he's gone all sober, he's pretty boring.
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

he is trying to recrate this feeling and style in St. Anger, but it doesn't work anymore, he just isn't living it anymore.

And its so much easier to blame James for every thing e.g. "my mail didn't come today, DAM YOU JAMES HETFIELD" *shakes fist* :D

Why would you want to do that?

Yeah, it´s true that they were a lot better on their first four, five albums, and so also James Hetfield. But I just don´t understand, why nearly anybody in here respects him. I mean, I can´t imagine that everybody of you could write a song like Nothing Else Matters or Master of Puppets on guitar. Of course it refers to your own taste, but when I listen to this songs, I hear just one great riff after another.

Maybe it´s the same thing with Hetfield what my teacher said about Clapton and Dylan: "These people where not good, they just were creative. But this has one big advantage: You get immortal."

I think James Hetfield is a great guitarplayer aswell he is a great creative mind. 20 years ago they had there most creative time and well, with St. Anger I think its comming to an end, But EVERY artist has a limit, I mean Yngwie alwayse plays the same ****... I love his playing but buy one album you herd them all...

Doensn't mean I dont respect Metallica. They have been touring for most of there lives, and they surfived it pretty well :) You can't say all artists can live that lifestyle and still are together as a group.
People just dont know what a dedication it takes to player with 4 guys for 20 years. There are band enough who quit after just 5 years touring and never wanting to see eachother again, these guys have been through hard times together and they still stand together as a band. Very rare nowadays I'd say.

As a musician I started playing Metallica, my first big band. Now 3 years later I can play pretty much everything they wrote, I understand there music and it aint that hard to play. But that's with all sorts of music, so I think people who don't respect them anymore because they can play there music just need to move on to other music and play that, dont complain I can play this, I can play that.
Meanwhile you are sitting here behind your computer and they are kicking ass @ a concert.

They seemed to think they are better than ever now when all of metallica's old fans just think they have turned into a pile of poo !
James's downpicking is also quite retarded :D
By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.
