Paul Gilbert's solo track on Racer X's first album..

Frenzy!!

As long as you have your alternate picking down, its pretty easy.

Do yngwie malmsteens Black Star solo or the Deja Vu solo if you can pull it off...its a nasty solo (pretty dam hard)
or learn a more emotional solo like Pink Floyd solo
In memory of Randy Rhoads

the stairway solo on TSRTS is so sloppy and bad... not Jimmy's best work

try the so from 'no quarter' on TSRTS, it's so good

is it just you by yourself up there or do you have a backup band or anything?

You could try mixing in a lot of stuff for a kind of medley. For example, you could take samples from Racer-X 'B.R.O.' and weave it in with something like the intro to 'leaving song part II' by AFI. For those (probably all) of you who are unfamiliar with or don't like AFI, the intro to that song is a beautiful combination of tapping and sliding together ( like b-t15/19p15p12). It's not anything revolutionary, but it has an incredible effect. You can actually watch the guitarist's hands as he plays it in the music video at yahoo (launch), I highly recommend it. The rest of the song isn't much, but that intro is awesome.

If you can sing you could do 'drive', by incubus. That's always a favorite. Or maybe try some van halen, that's always good. 'One', by metallica, is also a good cover piece.

If I were preparing for a competition I'd throw all my best solo stuff into my pre-arranged solo and just show em what I'm made of man. Imitating your favorite artists is all good and dandy, but we want to see the real Moody fa Loonie. If those artists we've talked about had gone and imitated their heros and never branched out, they wouldn't be where they are today. So show em you're a tiger, sport, show em what you can do. (lol) If you're no Gilbert, no worries.

play jimmi hendrix's star spangled banner. Did it once way back in my high school days and that certainly made everyone stand up! LOL
"Lets see… well I play the guitar and when I'm not playing the guitar, I think about playing the guitar. My other favorite instrument, is the guitar and if I aspired to play any other instrument, it would be the guitar...

I can’t sing so I sing through my guitar. So when the sound guy says: “Your guitar is too loud!” I think: "Why does he never say that to the vocalist?"
