hmm, dont think i've heard of them. What kind of music do they play ?
By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.

Kind of a more moderan reincarnation of the Dead's whole jam band thing.
I like them, when I'm high.
Otherwise I just find them kind of boring. They're not funky enough to fullfill my funk needs, and they don't rock hard enough for me to listen to them as a rock band. And the lead playing isn't good enough for me to listen to them for their jamming.

I'm a phish fan. I can really dig into some jam music sometimes and phish is one of the better "jam bands" out there. If you don't know any of their songs, here's some of my faves you should check out:
Waste
Wading in the Velvet Sea
Bouncing Around the Room
Stash
Heavy Things
Funky Bitch (w/ Son Seals)
I could name more, but you can get a rough essence of the band from these songs.

Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

I saw a video or a concert of Phish way back in the day when I knew little. The guitarist looked pro to me but then again it could be just I knew little. They were jumping on trampolines which seemed like a novel idea. I've got a few tunes I think from back when I used to collect tunes like a whore and to me they sound like studio musicians who decided they'd rather play live but remain neutral with respect to rage to maintain their professionalism. What's rock without rage? Phish.

Having seen Oysterhead's first public performance, I can say that for a person with a reputation as a supreme master of jamming, Trey REALLY depends on structure.
Without it, he's a chronic wanker.

I used to just call Phish a poor man's Dave Matthews Band. Some of their songs are good and Trey is one great musical talent. But all in all, I can't really say I like them. Even though I love the Dave Matthews Band, Phish just sounds too much like Rusted Root and The Dead, who I despise. But, if you like them, more power to you.

I saw a Trey solo concert, and he is really good
he has areally unique style and tone, and I hate phish as a band, but I have a tone of respect for Trey and the rest of those guys, because they have a tone of talent
plus they do some interesting Zeppelin covers
You enjoy myself is a pretty cool song I must admitt, there's a really cool appregio intro I suggest learning for peaple who want to practice appregios

I love Phish! Trey is a great guitar player w/a killer tone. I like the pre-Farmhouse stuff the best, Phish Alive One and Lawn Boy are my 2 fav's by them. Lawn Boy is a true work of art, one of my favorite all time cd's.
I'm really into the jam bands, I grew up listening to the Dead and the Allmans so that's always been my thing. There is something about improvisational rock that sounds more fresh and exciting then the typical rock song formula with the worked out 30 second guitar solo.
