This is a "hi I'm new here thread" so please don't get pissed :) I've been playing for 3 years and my influences are Steve Vai (I think he's the best..I know maybe not the most technical and not the fastest but his melodic playing almost puts me into a trance...and sometimes does) and Jason Becker (just learned Mable's Fatal Fable). I'm into lots of metal...I'll copy and paste a list from another forum I go to...

DEATH METAL

Hate Eternal
Dying Fetus
Cannibal Corpse
Death (kinda thrash)
Morbid Angel
Immolation
Behemoth
Decapitated
Deicide
Lucifer
Cryptopsy
Gasoline Baptism
Opeth
Hypocrisy
Carcass
Exhumed
Vile
Vader
Nile
Obituary (my favorite)

BLACK METAL...which I RARELY listen too anymore

Marduk
Mayhem (old stuff)
Burzum
Immortal
Darkthrone
Satyricon (old)
Graveland
Emperor

POWER METAL

Iron Maiden
Queensryche
Iced Earth (mixed with thrash)
Kamelot
Sonata Arctica
Symphony X

THRASH

OLD Metallica
old Megadeth
Testament
Anthrax
Kreator
Exodus

OTHER

Children of Bodom
Racer X
Lamb of God
Shadows Fall (older stuff)
Dimmu Borgir
Kalmah (like bodom)

...so theres my introduction.....

oh yeah I drink beer and smoke magical herbs. And a bit of dxm here and there. I'm really into lucid dreaming/meditation because it inspires some of the music I write. I'm also really into philosophy.

Welcome to the forum.

I've been listening to some Paul (anthrax) recently, that's some good stuff. I think he's endorsing abstract by Ed Roman these days. The only other bands I've heard on that list are metallica, racer-x (most elite, imo), and iron maiden.

dmx is hardcore..the substance, not the band. I've never heard the band.

wow, your into a lot of different music. You should love this site, its really great. I've learned so much from here.
By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.

It's probably one of those things where you have to like the music and listen to all the different types to appreciate the difference. It's pretty easy to tell the difference between thrash and melodic or black, but I'll admit past that is outside my perception.

And some of it is people trying to be 'unique'.

I think labeling genres are pretty pointless too but theres the basic ones which I've listed then theres pointless ones such as "black melodic power with harsh vocals"...those people drive me nuts.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I've been on this site for hours already lookin around and this is some really good ****.
