is the phyrgian dominant the same as a harmonic minor or somtihng? i read that it was its inversion of a harmonic minor scale but that confused me...so what really is the phyrgian dominant???

hmm, i think your right. I'm pretty sure they are the same thing.
By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.

It's the 5th mode of a Harmonic minor scale , just as the "normal" phrygian mode is the 5th of a natural minor (aeolian) scale.
For example , if you play the notes of A harmonic minor ,its phryigian dominant mode is E .

Another way to think of it is to take your regular Phrygian and sharp the third. Phyrgian #3. It's basically functioning as Phygian scale-wise with the signature b6, b7, and b9, but functioning as a dominant harmonically. If you make a chord, it will be E7 (E, G#, B, D).
