The best classical guitarist I have ever seen was a woman - Gallina Vernigora.
The Great Kat was a classical violin player who turned guitarist. I haven't heard her since long before I knew anything about guitar but I think I remember her being a proper shredder.
Jennifer Batten's one of the best guitarists in the world, I can't believe she plays support for Jeff Beck - she kicks his ass so hard.

Raitt is awesome... she inspired me to start play guitar. Its said that I really can't think of any others, but oh well. Gender doesn't matter anyways.

I saw Jeff Beck warm up for Sting a couple of years ago, Jeniffer Batten was in his band. I was pissed off they didnt play Hi Ho Silver Lining :( But it was a great experience, hes pretty amazing.
