Well yesterday, during a band practice, I sat at the drum kit and started playing and I discovered I can actually play! I just mimicked whatever my drummer was doing. Its pretty cool, I really like drums now and we are gonna have a song where each of us switched positions. Bass player and drummer to guitar, me to drums, and the other guitarist to bass.

Yea to me drummer looks and feels incredibly easy. I mean in high school we each for 5mins to mess about on them in music I could just remember my guns videos and mimic wot the drummer did. Your jut hitting things with sticks... no offense to drummers :)

Playing drums might seems easy, but in fact it's just really easy to be really bad at it...

Wow...hitting things with sticks...If it was really that easy I would be a blazing death metal drummer by now.Listen to some Death and Lamb of god...sure there 'hitting things with sticks' but there great at it.Thats almost like saying 'guitarists just touch and hit strings".
Try once,fail twice...

Anyone can be ok at something, but being good it is another story.

I'm not questioning your playing, im sure you are able to play well.

This goes for any instrument, people think they are good, and start a band...then we have tons of ****ty bands running around, with one finger chords, over playing drums, and root note bass.

Arch enemy songs are pretty challening to play on the drums, and a couple of dream theaters songs i had trouble with when i first started years back. Double bass i never had a problem with, but tom tom rolls, meh...pist me off. After years and hours upon hours of pratice i finally got the hang of it to where im comfortable.

Then theres my brother, who comes over sits behind my kit and pounds out whatever. He thinks hes a drum genius, he wanted to be a drummer for me or someone else, but when i tried to teach him things, he would just tell me he already new, which was apparent from him one horrible hip-hop beat lol.

I didnt mean it like that, I no theres depth to drumming and some incredibly difficult moves, but so far as picking it up quickly its way more accessable than other instruments. I lot of famous, widley apprecaited songs have simple drums in them that most people could pickup in a day. I dont think you can say that about lead guitar for example.

I agree that its an instrument thats easily picked up. hehe, i wasnt implying that you meant there was no depth to drumming. I was just saying IMO, that i think there are alot of drummers that today are poor players.

Its actually harder than you might tink... i mean take a look at mike portnoy or neal peart... try switching time signaturews and adding new beats in every measure. While keeping a beat with ur bass pedals. It is quite hard. Or try doing polyrythmic drumming. it is kind of hard.
