Lately, I've been obsessed with finding unorthodox ways to get sounds from the guitar. I've been influenced by several artists in this persuit, mostly Tom Morello and Joe Satriani. Here are a few of my favorite ways to make noise. Please share a few of your favorite noises/ techniques for making strange noises. Sound files would be cool, but I can't do them right now so if you can't, don't worry. We'll just use our imaginations or try them ourselves.

Cool Sounds:
If you have a guitar without a locking nut and without a string tree on the third string, pluck the third string behind the nut with the whammy bar pressed down. Raise the bar slowly to produce a nice roller coaster shriek. (Lots of distortion never hurts here).

If you have a remote control laying around, point it at your pickups and press any button. This makes a very neat radar-like sound. Try manipulating this sound with different pedals like a wah pedal or a whammy pedal.

Have fun and knock yourselves out!

Violin Bow

I grab my slide at put it right above the pickups and play around with it. Overdrive/Distortion is a must and wah doesn't hurt.

Throwing your electric guitar down a flight of stairs always works too. Tip: Make sure it's plugged in though. This trick/sound-effect technique usually only works once.

Hey! Doesn't the guitar break then?

if u start hammering on and on the third string frets three and five such as G---------3h5p3h5p3 continuously and you slide your finger gently up the third string at the same time it will give a neat affect that sounds kind of like a whales sonar. it is actually ur finger sliding up all of the harmonics.

Anyone ever hear of freak guitar? It's a thing all about this done by the guitarist for freak kitchen.

Yep, freak kitchen really freaks.. Morello aswell and Meshuggah, but just do this sweep fast

e|---------------------------16------
B|------------------14---------------
G|----------13-----------------------
D|--12-------------------------------
A|-----------------------------------
E|-----------------------------------

and then backwards, one half step higher, and then play it again at the 14th position on the g string. Continue cromaticly up to were ever you want to.. If it works right, it sounds crazy..

Also tap natural harmonics by thouching the string slightly above any fret, for exmple:

hit a G on the e-string and tap a natural harmonic on the 12th fret, an e again.

if u scrape your pick on the strings really close to the bridge with distortion wah pedal or delay or whatever else you want it can make some really cool noises

volume swells with delay can make some pretty trippy noises as well

has anyone ever gotten a violin bow to sound good, i can never get any sound out of mine
