What types of Chords would you use to funk up a piece like James Brown or Prince??

I LOVE FUNK MUSIC.... I just bought a tape of James Brown live. It's called THE LOST TAPES. In 1979, three young television producers convinced James Brown to fly to Santa Cruz, California, to make a come back performance after a period of retirement from the music scene. Due to unforntunate business circumstances the video was locked up for twelve years. Look it up at amazon. Great show...
