Hot Rod Deluxe
Does anyone have any opinions on this amp? Are all 3 channels on it pretty good, even at lower volumes? I haven't started playing gigs yet but definitely plan to, so would this amp have enough power (40 watts, 1, 12") or would I be better off with a Hot Rod Deville (60 watts, 2, 12"s or 4, 10"s) or just a completely different amp, possiblt some kind of half stack, all together. I know that I have to decide for myself whether I really like it's tone or not, but I'm looking for opinions on the amp's quality and power.

This amp is amazing. Anyone who thinks they need more than 50watts of tube power is nuts. I never turn it above 4, even at outside shows with no mics. Its crazy loud, great a low volumes. Doesn't start breaking up until about 6(I tried it once). Sounds great with a Tele or Strat. My LP sounds a bit muddy through it, but its mostly the pickups. Keep the 6L6 tubes in. Clean channel is CLEAN, and I like the more drive setting. The regular drive is muddy. Its not too heavy and portable. Great amp.

Thanks Tele Master. Most of the time I'll be playing through it with a Tele, so that's good. What I'm looking for is an amp that sounds crisp and clear on the clean channel, and can handle both rhythm and that classic lead tone, and this sounds like a great amp to check out. The Deluxe does has an effects loop, right? Do you play it with any effects, and is it able to handle them well without getting muddy?

Has an effects loop, but I have no need to use it.
My usual setup is Tele-MXR EQ-Wah-TS7(or BD2)-amp. I find it handles everything really well, I don't find tone changes at all when I have my effects on.
I recommend keeping the stock 6L6 tubes in, I changed mine just to see and I don't like the sound as much.
When playing rythm with drive, I would recommend using the "more drive" channel, even if you turn the drive down, it still sounds better than regular drive.

I do plan on running some effects in the loop (flanger, chorus, etc.) but also distortion pedals between the guitar and the amp and wanted to make sure it could handle them w/o changing the tone. Thanks for the heads up about the tubes. I'm definitely checking out the Deluxe next chance I get.

The amp is great!! Clean Tone and plenty of power. The only problem that I have with the amp is, you have one set of tone controls for all (3) channels. The clean channel, the drive channel and the more drive channel. I have a small problem adjusting the clean channel so that the drive channel sound good with the same tone settings. I use a Strat with it and usually am very pleased with the Tone.
