OK Marshall guys I need advice.
I have a 50watt SL-X head right now, appearantly its a factory hotrodded JCM 800 with 4 gain stages and other non-sence details.I run it through a 1960AX greenback loaded cab.
Anyway,I've allways been looking for that clean crunch ala a hard driven plexi. This SL-X doesn't deliver as close as I can get it still has a faint buzyness to the preamp, and with the preamp down anymore It just loses all its nuts all together.
Now I've been thinking of several options here.
1)I've allways liked the sound of a good 2204 JCM 800 50watter,but they need to be on the boarder of all most to loud for the mix in order to drive them into that pretty sound.Remember an 800 on 3 is like 900,000 decibals or somthing.lol
2)Can the JCM2000 DSL deliver that plexi'ish tone without head splitting volumes??I've heard allot of good about these heads. If I can pull m tone from say the clean channel it would be nice to have that extra distortion channel there for a nice change now and then.
3)Is it possible to tame the nasty buzz in my SL-X with a tube change??Perhaps old tubes like Mullards or GE or Telefunken??

If you can't find a real plexi, you need a 1969 Traynor YBA-1. You can pick up one of these on eBay for under US$300, and toss that sorry JCM.
