what should I be learning in order to be proficient in writing black metal/neo-classical metal music? I know my scale patterns but what do I do with them? Is there anything in particular I should be studying as far as chord progressions? How do they write such bad a** arpeggio riffs?

And, let's say I have a simple power chord progrerssion that goes E maj.5, C maj.5, A maj.5, B Maj.5. DO I change the key I am soloing in to the coresponding root note of each power chord or do I stay in the same key? Say Em. Do I use a different mode over each power chord? Like using E Harmonic Minor over the E then Aeolian over the C and Diminished over B and so on...
