I'm a beginner, just having started (2 months now).

I have a worry. I have fairly small (dainty?)hands & fingers. This helps in keeping my playing clean. But i seem to have trouble with the more diffcult chord. Barre chords and such are giving me a hard time, i just don't seem able to reach them.

Are there tricks? How can i get my fingers to spread?

Any advice would be welcome..

You're going to have a hard time at first, but as you go along your hands will get more dexterity. My hands used to get sore from all the stretching I had to do with my fingers, and I'd stick them in a sink filled with warm water for about 30 seconds. It loosens the muscles in your hands without wearing away the callouses on your hands.

I have smaller hands also, but now I can reach all the chords, and I can reach quite a bit of frets without moving a finger off the neck. Just takes practice.

Check this guy out. You'll soon see that small hands make no difference. http://www.marcelcoenen.com/movieclips.htm

anyone know what does marcel (the guy from the given link above) uses to add harmony on his guitar? it sounds really good. that guy's really good. wow! and i thought I had stumpy fingers!!!

I can’t sing so I sing through my guitar. So when the sound guy says: “Your guitar is too loud!” I think: "Why does he never say that to the vocalist?"

I know, I like his tone too. But I was thinking in terms of a harmonizer or a pitch shifter of some sort. There was a part in there were his guitar sounded like two.

yup, that's it! lol why didn't i think about that. Brian May used delays and echoes before there was such a thing as pitch shifters.

If seen Marcel Coenen Live in Holland, as the support act of Queensryche.
I was realy amazed, and as the only guitarist of the band they had a realy thick sound :) He can shred some cool stuff :D

- edit:
btw that a realy cool version of our anthem :)

wow! you've seen that marcel dude? that must be something. i wish he'd come to Canada but my country only accepts crappy boring music mostly from the US like them brintney spears, justin timberlake, and 50 cents rubbish. i was almost convinced that it was the end of the world! where have all the shredders and 8 finger tappers gone? wish they were more recognized by the upstream media. i think its time people begin appreciating the higher arts.
