OK, skate laguage. Why is it skate laguage ?I skate but i dont talk like that !! Apperently people wont think you are cool if you dont talk like that. Well that what my friend said to me once.
Anyway, as far as i know if your getting 80 quid emz's they are good for metal. My friend upgraded to them. He said they are the best pick ups. I'm guessing they are good for mettalica style guitar playing becuase that what he likes.I dont think you will need knew knobs and switches though but you will need to change the electronics. They will do that for you when you get them changed though.

By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.

kool thankx alot. I have a problem with my volume knob, it only get sound if i turn it all the way up. does this mean its done? And i have to turn it past full volume to get sound. This could be bad huh? thankx for the info. and kirk uses emg pickups on his guitar so i guess it would sound pretty close

Probably means the pots are shot, or you just have way cheap pickups.
As much as other people recommend EMG, I have to put Dimarzio in there. EMG will give you more power, and of course that active boost the the bass and treble ranges I'm sure, but I've always found a good pickup from Dimarzio to deliver a better (as opposed to just louder) tone.
And even if having a really hot pickup is your goal, Dimarzio's Super Distortion, Super 2, Super 3, Evolution bridge, Tone Zone, and now especially the X2N (their highest output pickup) is a real monster.
And if you want an artist endorsement. I mean crap.. pretty much every great shredder has used Dimarzio pickups at some time (and usually for a while).

I'm a big dimarzio fan myself, but I have heard some incredibly tight blistering rock from seymour duncans.
I think sambob has a nice point there with tone v. loud. I always try new stuff out playing completely clean and then work my way up from there for that reason.

I'd recomend Seymour Duncans. The only active EMGs I had I hated. They sounded very synthetic.I like the seymour duncan JB model in the bridge as for the neck I don't use an of my humbucker guitars for neck tones.
Certiied Stratocaster NUT!!
