Ever seen Nuno Bettencourt??? Or even our own Schmange? Tapping is NOT just a gimmick (though that's the way many people treat it).

I'll start judging tapping as soon as I'm able to do it. :(

Tapping is just as much a skill as sweeping, alternate picking, or trem picking.
Tapping is awesome, especially when you get good at it. It's just another move in the arsenal.

Sometimes I hit notes only dogs can hear.

Dunno what those are. Sweeping, kinda, but that's it.
Good thing I'm good at chord work :)

speaking of tapping, what modifications do folks do to their guitars to make it super touch sensitive?
"Lets see… well I play the guitar and when I'm not playing the guitar, I think about playing the guitar. My other favorite instrument, is the guitar and if I aspired to play any other instrument, it would be the guitar...
I can’t sing so I sing through my guitar. So when the sound guy says: “Your guitar is too loud!” I think: "Why does he never say that to the vocalist?"

Ummmm... add compression?
... and that's all I have to say about that.

Put the gain through the roof. It's not going to help anything else, but you'll hear every time you touch the strings.

if volume, gain, and compression are the only things that can produce clear tapping sounds, then what is this tap instrument that people call "stick"? I've never seen one- I don't even know what this is. I just heard it from guys who like to finger tap or who likes to do two- handed tapping. Is a stick a modified guitar of some sort? they say it's a very touch- sensitive instrument.
also, speaking of two handed tapping, anyone heard of this adam fulara dude? he's pretty good. i checked out his site and watched the videos at

thnx for the site leedog. now, i was thinking since the stick is sort of like a guitar is there a way that you can modify a normal guitar like a stick or a sort of like a hybrid/cross between a stick and a guitar?

I've seen a guy play a stick, they're pretty cool. Imagine a bass and a guitar on one honkin' huge fretboard. The guy sounded like his own orchestra...pretty neat.
