what sounds in music are to you the aural equivalent of fingernails scraping the blackboard. what makes you suddenly want to hurl the radio/tv/cd player outta the window as soon as these sounds come on or simply hurl?

for me it has to be

Phil Collins voice - makes me wanna kill randomly

Anything by Craig David

'whoooaaaa..yeaahhhh..ahhhh...ay yay yay..'etc you get on power ballads, Whitney Houston records. A good recent example is that dire effort between Mary J Blige + Sting where MJB goes into overdrive.

Shaggy's so-called skat/rapp- ing. sounds like he's got a mouth full of mothballs

programmed tinny snare drum sounds like you find on club records esp 2 step garage.

angry/aggressive rapping

Well, let's see here...

1) Twangy Country Music
2) Moldy Oldies my Mom busts out on 45's when she's drunk
3) Slipknot and their ilk
4) Jesus music is hard to listen to (except Cartman's faith+1)

...You know what, I'm gonna turn on MTV right now, see what's on, let about 2 seconds pass so I can register exactly how horrible the song is, come back here, and add it too the list. Here I go...

...LMFAO!!! MTV2 has a show on right now called "Most Irritating" how ironic! That makes the rest of my post easy.

5) The Macarena
6) Blue (dabadeedabadi)
7) Barbie Girl
8) Tubthumping

Good enough list for now, I don't wanna take all the easy ones :)
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

Found music, in my opinion, is a pile of crap. Or just random notes. Believe it or not, people actually do consider that to be music. It's called aleotoric music, which loosely translated means 'chance music'. If I'm in the mood for it, I don't mind those types of cds with nature sounds on them (ie. ocean waves, crickets, or whatever), but it's still not music as far as I'm concerned.

I hate anything commercial, canned music and the like. anything shiny and spells out bend over. songs based on female sexual authority. one guy standing on a stage talking in front of thousands and selling albums of the same. songs exploiting teenage insecurity and songs composed by pushing a button. i hate the power chord and i hate the combination of your typical no stage appearance, no talent bands with a well produced album. I hate the direction the corporation's forcing this industry to take and i hate the fact that i'm even remotely associated with this goddamn supposed artform.

Busted... ahhhh i hate them so much. Why do all these stupid people like them ? Why dont they just put those guitars down if there only going to pretend to play them !!!
By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.

Becuase they think they can play them..?

Oh, my goodness, you have no idea how insane this guy makes me... I hate his music with such an intensity it is not funny. Well, maybe to onlookers. And I'm speaking from experience, since I went on a road trip a couple of years ago and one of the 5 CDs we had was a Craig David CD of my friend's. He was one of the drivers, and the rule was that the driver gets to choose the music. So I had listened to that CD about 25 times after that trip... ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
... and that's all I have to say about that.

Most annoying sounds in music...Well, I can tell you the most glorious sound in music. Neither melody nor harmony could ever possibly top the sound of Eddie Van Halen screaming at the top of his lungs in a high pitched voice...God bless you, Eddie Van Halen.

The worst things of all: 'easy listening' and the cheesy christmas music that they pipe to you in supermarkets to remind you of your moral obligation to the share holders of disposable industries that you are to allow them to emotionally blackmail you into buying presents for people to celebrate the supposed birth of someone who by all accounts was socialist anyway some 2000 years ago.

Whitney Houston - I Will Love You(?). That song from The Bodyguard soundtrack...

It's painful only because it sounds so much like Carol Burnett's Tarzan yell that I collapse in a fit of laughter, and Whitney fans beat on me while I'm helpless!
