The difference in music quality through a pair of professional studio headphones is crazy. Take a beatles tune like Dear Prudence. There's no BS eq or boosting in these puppies so you get exactly the sound that was intended and it's so clear. But there's so much space in this tune inbetween the different tracks ... with respect to where they're positioned around your head. You don't hear that normally. Sounds very organized and almost simple. Brings tears to my eyes.

I don't know of anything that's good enough to trust the audio response for $40(new)?? Maybe some other members do??

If you want quality, it's tough to find a REAL good set of 'cans for under $100. There's a fairly common "standard" you'll find in MANY studios, that'll take a fair amount of regular usage & retain audio integrity. Check out the AKG K240.

The K-240 has 2 common models; K240M & K240S, I doubt you'll 'hear' the dif' (it's impedance), but the 240M might be better if you're running a practice amp through 'em a lot. Those will be great for home recording too! It's worth the extra $$$ bro' totally. You may get lucky & find 'em new for like $70 or so (They list for $100 I think?), and you'll have a pro' set of cans. They're "flat" though, so if you're looking for 'color' from your cans, get something more designed for home-stereo usage.

There's a "K240DF" (my fav's), but they're not necessary for most & you're getting in over $250-$300 maybe??

Have any of you ever taken the time to REALLY check out different reference 'cans?? It's NUTS!!! Every time I have to do it, NONE OF THEM sound the same, and after like 1-hour of listening to all these things I don't know WHAT the hell sounds good anymore! LOL!!
