Hey there, was just taking a look around this site and it's quite nice and has a lot of good information in it. However, I came to the forums here and was quite surprised to see it using one of the oldest versions of vBulletin I've seen (vB 1.1.3). I was just curious as to what was the decision to stick with this older version as opposed to upgrading. :)

(I don't work and am not affiliated with vB either. ;))

Well, this one works quite well... why fix what ain't broke?
"You must stab him in the heart with the Bone Saber of Zumacalis... well, you could stab him in the head or the lungs, too... and the saber, it probably doesn't have to be bone, just anything sharp lying around the house... you could poke him with a pillow and kill him."

Possible security issues? New features?

Well, if it really is something that interests you (not sure who's in charge here/who to speak to, possibly you? :)) I run a similar message board and am running vB 2.3.2. My members area access has expired (meaning I can't download any new versions unless I renew for $30), but I have an owned license which means I can run vB for an infinite amount of time.

I also have (but am not publicly using yet) vB 3 Beta 6, which, even though it's beta, is being used on many large sites and has been running very well. Would a possible combination with my site be something you'd consider?

dont worry guys - i´ve been encountering the same type of "why dont you make this and that better and why dont you use this instead of that"-peeps very often concerning my web-stuff. i dont know, but i think that decision is up to the webmaster and there is nothing that bugs me more than peeps who cant just be satisfied with whats there. there does not need to be a guitartricks.com at all - but there is - so bow down and thank our webmaster all day long that you dont have to pay for it.
nothing wrong with suggestions, but when it´s "no thanks" then stop bugging.

Actually, we do have plans to use vbulletin3 but I am waiting until it gets out of beta and I have some free time.

I have been planning to use that version for over a year and have been waiting, waiting, waiting while they work on it. Since the rest of the site hinges on vbulletin, it is not a quick install, but more of an integration, so I haven't done a vb2 upgrade in the interim.

So...stay tuned I guess.
