2) Joe Satriani (incredible... has a lot of style)
3) Stevie Ray Vaugh (one of my favs... reinvented blues)
4) John pertucci (he does it all... great live)
5) Nuno Bettencourt (Most underrated guitar playas out there he rox)

My friend Rob is nuno's nephew in-law or something like that.I called it bullsh*t,but he said he lives a few towns around me.Rob plays the guitar,but he never knew that nuno was considerd some big player when he saw him at family reunions.Hes not one to lie about stuff.It was brought up in a conversation about great guitarists between me and him.I'm like "you ever here of nuno bettencourt?" and hes like "yeah,hes my uncle in-law...he lives over in winchington/westminister(or something like that).I was just 'mouth opened' shocked.

Anyway...a list

Chuck shuldiner(not a technical nut,but most influential to me...he really spoke with his instrument)

petrucci(i just started to appreciate his style)

malmsteen(perfectionist)

vitek(watch out for this kid...10 years down the road he will be unmatched)

jeff hanneman(say what you will...hes the force behind slayer and the some of the best riffs ever created)

thats awesome... my dad grew up with nuno... he actually played for him cuz my dad was in a band.he was like 7 years older than him but still.

I actually forgot to put Gary Moore up there cuz hes great

If you want to talk underrated guitar players, there's the guy who would probably top my list of top guitarists: Danny Gatton. For some reason the best musicians have this habit of dying way the hell before they came to the acknowledgement the deserved.

Agreed. Danny Gatton was supremely versatile, playing jazz, rockabilly, blues..you name it he could play any style pretty much. A lot more than can be said for most metalheads. Similarly, the Hellecasters can play the arses pretty much off anyone on the plant today, yesterday and tomorrow. They've also got the tunes, the humour..the lot. A big up then for John Jourgensen, Jerry Donahue and Will Ray. If you're American and you love great guitar, I suggest you get all 4 albums as a masterclass. I only say that, cos it should be easier to get them Stateside than anywhere else. I've had to import them at great cost. Worth it though. Steve Vai at al would kill for their chops.

That's 4. 5th? Albert Lee. Im biased towards anyone who can chickin pick banjo-style at speed.

And dont f*ck with flamenco players. The thing about flamenco players is that you cant get away with being 'OK' like in rock. I'm well into this music and am blown away every time I hear a player whether a big name like Paco de Lucia or just some guy playing in a bar in Seville.

You forgot to mention Sabicas....the 1st to take solo Flamenco guitar to a whole new level.
I once came across a quote on a website that read "Flamenco is everything heavy metal inspires to be" -Lol- so true.

BTW...I just picked up tickets yesterday for Paco de Lucia, his 1st time to the states in over 2 years, I'm physched!

Yeah, I know what you mean, Paco is a little tempermental. I've heard some live stuff that was amazimg, other stuff that was ok for his standards (like his Live In America cd).

Plus, you never know what kind of frame of mind he's going to be in...will he show up w/a sextet, trio, or solo...will he play his jazz stuff, Flamenco stuff, or south american stuff? Either way, I've never seen him live before so I'm betting it will be pretty inspirational. The show I'm going to is his last show on the American Tour, so he should be pretty warmed up by then.
