If you play it the 2nd way though, your pick gets all tied up, and you couldn't pick once for each 3 notes going up the scale, forget what that's called. Is that a normal stretch? (12-15-17) and do you play it with the first, ring and pinky fingers? I tried it down an octave starting on the A on the E string. It's doable but quite the strech.
