I have run into a similar problem. I have finally raised the cash and can afford an all tube Marshall or similar amp.
I have found a 1959slp 100 watt head and the cab (4x12) that goes with it for the equivalent of about 900USD, I can also buy a used JCM900 head for that price, but without the cab. I know the slp is a single channel, push volume real loud if you want gain kinda amp, but I have one or two really good distortion pedals. When I run them through this amp, will I still keep the warm tube tone, or lose it. If I loose it, then I guess I should go with a Jcm or another two or more channel amp.
I need the distortion to keep up with my band though, we play sortof "post-modern thrash metal" if you will.
Any suggestions of a cool amp, I really want a tube amp, but cool solid states are also cool.
