That's a decent sound clip, but yeah, you need moderate overdrive, not heavy distortion. The playing is rather sloppy, and seems unfocused in the latter third of the clip. If you want to hear great Blues shredding, try Gary Moore, perhaps "Pretty Woman" or fora bit more melodic piece, try "Still Got The Blues" - both contain quality blues shredding. I say you're good for playing about a year, but there's a lot of room for improvement. Keep at it. Also, what your friends might consider shredding might be different than what you consider shredding. Very few people consider blues riffs, even fast, shredding. They're looking for more three note per string alternate picking metal riffs.
