Yeah I've noticed a trend since I've gotten into this shred scene. A lot of these guys are jazz musicians playing rock. Punch a jazz solo full of distortion and emphasize the one and three and you've got an untouchable rock guitarist. Same deal with a classical bit with distortion. I guess that's the great thing about rock, versatile. You couldn't take a clean rock solo and put it in a jazz tune without puking.
