recording in cool edit pro

Im new to cool edit pro and experiencing a few problems recording from an external source,i think ive turned something off as it was working before.Im using a adidigy D800 sound card,but nothing seems to record onto the multitrack,the monitor levels at the bottom of the screen are very low but my source vol is almost full(any higher and it distorts)Ive activated the little rec icon but it still dosent record ?Any suggestions would be great as im still new to cool edit pro ! many thanks cutloose

Sounds like you have turned down your recording input (like a trim pot). Have you tried double clicking on the speaker icon in your in tray and then looking at the "recording" view as opposed to the "playback" view. You can select either form the pull down menu. It sounds like you need to increase your input signal from your sound card.
