OK dude, three approaches to playing slide: 1 tune your Axe to an open chord (I like E) and use it to cover many strings simultaneously. The trick with this style is to keep the slide strait and level with the fret board whilst playing. You also don't kneed to push down very hard. This is a sort of George Thorogood style.


The second is to leave your Axe tuned normally and play run with the slide a la Jeff Beck. This is difficult.

The third is to play runs using open tuning. This will fry your Brain if you try and think about it too much however sometimes just noodling about will produce some nice results !
