I am getting ready to build a cabinet and my first question is speakers. Now like most people I'm on a budget, thats one reason why I'm building one. But, I want good speakers, not top of the line but not bottom either. Something that will last and have decent sound, for a fairly good price. Any suggestions, also I need speakers with maximum 4 ohm resistance. At least thats what it says on my amp.

The 4ohms impedence indicated by your amp means the total impedence , not that of each speakers .
Let's say you have 2 speakers , each of 8 ohms ... If connected in parallel, they'll will give you 4 ohms total , or 16 ohms if connected in series.
I can explain in details if you don't know how to calculate the total impedence , just tell me. :)

I'm not experienced with different types of speakers , but from what I hear , celestion is your best choice ... Most high end amp manufaturers use them .

If you are looking for speakers on the cheap, check out Eminence speakers. They sound great and are about half the price of Celestrons. Also if you are looking for a cabinet, http://www.rhinoamps.com has a bunch of 4x12 cabinets for like $65.00 in the bargin basement. I can't even build a cabinet of that quality covered for that price.

So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

Spend some time reading this thread to figure out how to match the impedance of your amp output.

If the cab you load your speakers into doesn't sound quite right, you can still do a few things to tweak it. Click Here

About the speakers...

It's been my experience that you can spend a whole lot of money a bit at a time, on half-assed poor-boy stuff, and in the end you realise that it would have been cheaper to do the right thing in the first place.

Go to WeberVST and check out their stuff. Browse through the user comments and pick out something that fits your needs. Then spend some dollars, enjoy the results, and get on with your life.

Life is too short to settle for bad tone! :)
