I'm thinking of making a rehearsal room in my cellar, the problem is that the walls, the floor and even the celling is made out of concrete. And the sound in the room sucks.. cuz the sound echoes and bounces around. I'm thinking of putting old blancets on the walls and the cellin. Do you think that will help or do you have a better idea.. Or just any kind of advice that may help out. I'm sorry I've posted this thread in the wrong section.

Sorry for the bad language

They make stuff you can put on the wall to help with the sound. It's called "studio foam" and you can get it here...

Now bear in mind it IS quite expensive. Another cheaper alternative for you would be to contact somewhere that sells eggs for retail (I think they would be called hatcheries?) and buy a whole bunch of those 2 dozen egg crates and screw or glue them to the wall. Then get a good PA with a good RTA and pink noise the room. That will give you the best sound as long as you are using a PA then just mic everything.
{edit note: No biggie; I just shortened up the URL tag :) L.}

So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

Blankets will do the job. Egg cartons stuck to walls will also break up acoustically reflective surfaces. Also putting big things in the corners of the room to diffuse big long bass frequencies / break up standing waves will help.

Room dimensions (ratio of length to width)are also important however they are more difficult to manipulate !

Best of luck dude, let us know how you get on !

A friend of mine got his room done with about 2 or 3 inches layer of sponge , and egg cartons all over ... He also has carpets everywhere on the floor ... The sound in his room is just great , and he only paid for the sponge layer , which is also cheap !

Thanks a lot guys. I'd better make some calls.. I don't know if we have a hatchery or something like that but my grandma is bound to have old blankets in great quantity

Be careful about what kind of foam you use! If you or your buddies smoke, you could be building a fire trap!

Friend of mine got into serious acoustic treatments. He managed to make a completely anechoic room. He hadn’t quite got his head round how much of your sound is dependent upon pleasant room reflections and ended up ripping out about 1Ks worth of acoustic treatment cos he ended up hating it !

Tippy toe !
