A friend of mine wants to upgrade from his 15W Fender trainer to something with more power. Now he does have a limited budget, hopefully something under $1000. Hes hoping for a tube amp, or something that he can at least jam with, when hes with me and to be heard over drums. Any suggestions?

P.S. Used stuff is good too.

I bought a used Peavy TNT 115 BW bass amp for $325, and the thing rocks. I just have the gain and master volume on one and the thing shakes my whole house. It has a bunch of different settings and effects that you can mess with. It is loud enough to play anywhere with anyone. It has been perfect with me when I have tried out or jammed with bands. I suggest it to anyone.

I think there are a lot of good reasons why Ampeg has been one of the biggest names in bass amps for 40 years, and is still going strong. Check them out.
