MARSHALL...tube of coarse, yes, they can get pricey but find a decent used one, that should be good enough, they revolutionize rock'n'roll, haha, good enough for me anyways, but they do sound awesome, they're not just a name. They make 50watt 1x12 combos...can get a nice jcm 800 or 900 used for under 500 bucks most anywhere you look, they'll give you a nice all-around sound. the idea behind a tube amp is cranking it to get that real gritty, ballsy sound. Those 40watt jcm2000's are also a mean little amp, pack a lot of punch even at lower volumes, they're all tube...I think you can get one of those for around $500 used...whatever fits you best, if you want a more traditional sound, then get a tube amp for sure, marshall especially because they're what you hear listen to hendrix, healey, srv, ac/dc, guns'n'roses, frampton, clapton, even the earlier Van Halen stuff and the list is endless. Tube amps just have a tone and characteristic that'll you'll never find in a solid state amp.
